Mr Brightside has taken a key step toward his international debut, completing an 800-metre jumpout at Flemington on Friday ahead of his flight to Hong Kong on Monday.
Co-trainer Will Hayes told Racing.com that the team is pleased with the nine-time Group 1 winner’s preparation, especially since his close second in the All-Star Mile at Flemington last month.
“It’s a pretty unique preparation for him because over the past two or three years we haven’t been able to freshen him like we have, so he’s actually thriving and he’s ready for an international flight,” Hayes said.
Hayes was pleased with Mr Brightside’s performance in the trial. “It was a really forward trial. He showed great barrier speed and ran to the line nicely,” he said. “Craig (Williams) was particularly thrilled, which is always a good guide.”
The $17.3 million earner is preparing for the $5.1 million Champions Mile at Sha Tin on April 27, and Hayes is excited to see how he fares on the global stage.
“We look forward to it, and I think he’s one of the best milers in the world,” Hayes added.
